YardCalculators provides free landscaping calculators to help US homeowners plan their yard projects with confidence. Enter your dimensions, get your numbers — no signup, no math required.
Why we built this
Every spring, millions of homeowners head to the garden center and come home with the wrong amount of mulch. Too much means money wasted — and a pile rotting in the driveway. Too little means a second trip. We built YardCalculators so you know the exact number before you leave the house.

Who's behind this
The YardCalculators team builds and maintains these tools for homeowners who'd rather spend time in the yard than doing manual math. Our guides are developed using USDA extension service publications, university agricultural programs, and manufacturer specifications. When we publish a depth recommendation or a formula, it's sourced from published horticulture guidance — not just common knowledge.
How our calculator works
No black box. The core formula for any rectangular bed is:
The ÷ 12 converts depth from inches to feet. The ÷ 27 converts cubic feet to cubic yards — because one cubic yard equals exactly 27 cubic feet. Bag count is derived from total cubic feet ÷ bag size, rounded up. Every result you see comes directly from those two calculations.
Our calculators use standard industry formulas with price data sourced from leading national cost-reporting platforms including HomeGuide, Angi, and LawnStarter, updated regularly.
